At Apples and Sage Organic Wholefoods we offer a Kombucha Bar for your convenience. We are often asked by customers what is Kombucha and why should they be drinking it. While sounding like it might be something cool to drink, Kombucha has a lot more to offer than just its name. We answer some of the questions you might have about it below.
What is Kombucha?
Thought to have originated in China thousands of years ago, Kombucha is a fermented probiotic tea. Kombucha is made using a combination of tea, water, sugar and a fermented mix called a SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria & Yeast), which is all combined and left to ferment. The result is a lightly carbonated tea containing probiotics and antioxidants that are beneficial for our bodies.
What are the possible health benefits?
While Kombucha drinkers report numerous health benefits, restoring or improving gut health is considered one of the primary ones. As the gut is 'home' for more than 85% of our immune system, it is important to look after it. Other benefits can include improved digestion, improved joint function, assisting toxin elimination and overall cleansing by nourishing the body from the inside out.
Our Kombucha is from Grateful Harvest, who brew their Kombucha in Melbourne. We offer 3 flavours – natural, ginger or vanilla. Pop in store and have a taste!
